NSI is honored to receive Opioid Abatement Council (OAC) funding beginning in July 2024. This funding will allow additional staff to serve our community through hands-on, collaborative, and holistic care. At this point, funding for the following position is for a term of 3 years.

Job Title: Outreach Center Supervisor

Organization: Next Step Initiative Tennessee (NSI)

Location: 611 Citico Street, Knoxville, TN 37921

Position Type: Full-time, averaging 32 hours/week, beginning July 2024.

About Next Step Initiative: NSI is a leading nonprofit organization committed to providing harm reduction and outreach services to individuals affected by homelessness and/or substance use disorders. Our mission is to empower individuals through boundless love and compassion by offering comprehensive support, resources, and education.

Job Description: NSI is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to serve as an Outreach Center Supervisor. This position plays a pivotal role in overseeing the operations of our outreach center program, ensuring the effective delivery of services to our clients.

Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

  • Certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS).

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.

  • Experience documenting services using an electronic health record (EHR).

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients.

  • Ability and willingness to obtain certification for HIV/HCV testing if not already certified.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate food and supply orders for the outreach center and street outreach programs, ensuring adequate stock levels at all times.

  • Oversee meal preparation and packaging for the outreach center and street outreach programs, adhering to food safety and sanitation guidelines.

  • Provide first aid and minor wound care to clients as needed, ensuring their safety and well-being.

  • Distribute food, hygiene items, safe using supplies, and other essentials to clients in a respectful and non-judgmental manner.

  • Conduct comprehensive case management services, including assessing client needs, developing care plans, and monitoring progress towards goals.

  • Coordinate transportation services for clients to appointments, support groups, and other essential services as needed.

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all delivered services in accordance with organizational protocols and EHR requirements.

  • Conduct HIV/HCV testing, counseling, and education sessions, maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity to clients' needs.

  • Facilitate referrals to other care providers, community collaborators, and support services based on clients' needs and preferences.

  • Collaborate with the outreach team to plan and implement harm reduction activities, including transportation to needle exchange programs, overdose prevention education, and community outreach events.

  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and supervision of outreach center staff and volunteers.

  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for clients, staff, and visitors, adhering to all safety and security protocols.

  • Perform other harm reduction and outreach activities as needed to support the mission and objectives of Next Step Initiative.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the principles of harm reduction, peer support, and recovery-oriented care.

  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in a social services or outreach setting.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Empathy, compassion, and non-judgmental attitude towards individuals facing challenges related to substance use.

  • Familiarity with community resources and referral networks is advantageous.
