Position Type: Full-time, averaging 32 hours/week, beginning July 2024.
About Next Step Initiative: NSI is a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to harm reduction and outreach services for individuals who are homeless and/or experiencing substance use disorders. Our mission is to provide essential harm reduction support, resources, and education to empower individuals on their journey toward wellness.
Job Description: NSI is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as an Outreach Harm Reduction Food Operations Manager. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of our food distribution program, which serves as a vital component of our harm reduction efforts.
Requirements:
- Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS).
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for the majority of your shift.
- Experience documenting services using an electronic health record (EHR).
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients.
- Ability and willingness to obtain certification for HIV/HCV testing if not already certified.
- Willingness to work in the community, including the encampments of people experiencing homelessness who are currently using substances.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and execute the pickup of food donations from various sources.
- Organize and maintain inventory of food and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels at all times.
- Oversee the distribution of food, hygiene items, and other essentials to clients in a respectful and non-judgmental manner.
- Collaborate with the outreach team to conduct harm reduction activities, including transportation to needle exchange programs, overdose prevention education, and community outreach events.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, distribution activities, and client
interactions.
- Provide support and guidance to individuals accessing services, including
referrals to additional resources as needed.
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development
opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to harm reduction and recovery support.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist in coordinating and facilitating outreach events and initiatives aimed at engaging individuals in need of support services.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of harm reduction strategies and programs.
- Foster positive relationships with community partners, volunteers, and
stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness and sustainability.
Qualifications:
- Strong commitment to the principles of harm reduction and peer support.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Empathy, compassion, and non-judgmental attitude toward individuals facing challenges related to substance use and homelessness.
- Previous experience in food service, social services, or related field is preferred.
